About this guide and how we choose

Backdropping is an independent buying guide for photography backdrops and stands, run by WellTracked.

What this site is

Most backdrop listings tell you a size and a color and leave the rest to you. Whether that size covers a full length shot with your lens, whether the fabric will crease, and how it stores are the questions that decide whether you like it. This site answers those with diagrams, sizing math and plain care instructions.

How we choose

We have not tested these products ourselves. Nothing on this site claims hands-on testing, lab results or scores of our own. Instead:

  1. Sizes and care come from makers and photography references. Roll widths, size ranges and care steps come from maker guides such as Savage Universal and Westcott, and from photography publications we link on every page.
  2. The calculator is geometry. It uses the standard relation between focal length, sensor size and distance, and says what it assumes.
  3. Maker claims are labeled as claims. When a maker says a fabric resists wrinkles or a vinyl has no glare, we say the maker says so.
  4. Products in the feed are popular listings, not test winners. We list what each one is for. Compare the listing’s size and material with your plan before you buy.
  5. No scores, no star ratings, no prices. Prices change daily and we have no test data to score with.

How the site earns

Some links go to Amazon with our affiliate tag. If you buy, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That never decides what we recommend. Details are on the affiliate disclosure page.

Illustrations

Every drawing on this site, including the product card illustrations, is our own and shows a product type, not the exact listing.
